Who Are Our Representatives Working For?
Joshua Schneiderman
Marketing Professional & Volunteer
Waverly, Iowa
Right now, it is hard to tell who our representatives believe they are answering to. 56% of Iowans support the AEAs that assist our teachers, but it was made a priority by Pat Grassley to attack those institutions. More than 60% of Iowans believe that a woman should be able to choose to end a pregnancy in most or all cases, but Reynolds has been fighting Iowans and the court on it. 3/4 of Iowans believe Iowa’s mental health system is in crisis, but Republicans continue to strip those systems. Who is pressuring state politicians to vote against Iowans’ interests? It’s not our neighbors in Northeast Iowa. It’s organizations from outside the state.

Strong communities need a strong employment-base that goes beyond state tax incentives. It requires access to medical care, clean water, good roads, strong schools, affordable housing, quality daycare, safe recreation, and more. Representatives in Des Moines are not trusting the people closest to the work, soil, or family and our communities are paying the bill.
More Guns is the Answer?!
Julie Versluis
Grandmother
Greene, Iowa

Lifelong Iowan Is Reminded of a Fool-Proof Way to Know Someone’s Values.
Al Charlson
Retired Banker
Waverly, Iowa
Iowans have heard a lot about values and how much we care about kids during this year’s Legislative session. As these declarations continue to echo, I am reminded of a comment by Reverend Billy Graham, ‘Give me a few minutes with a person’s checkbook, and I will tell you where their heart is.’
