A Flat Tax Hurts You and Your Neighbors
A flat tax helps the wealthy and hurts the working families of Iowa. A flat tax will lead to lost revenue for the state that will not be fully buffered by the Tax Payer Relief Fund. In order to balance the budget, the state will need to raise sales tax and make more cuts to public services, such as roads, bridges, education, and healthcare. When those taxes are hiked, nearly every resident of Butler and Bremer counties will pay a disproportionate higher share of their income compared to the wealthy, all with reduced services. Reynolds Dismissed Federal Funding that Could have Done a Great Deal of Good
Governor Reynolds turned down 29 million dollars in federal funding for a summer food program and then opened a new state-run program offering only $900,000 in grants to schools and organizations. Rather than bringing in adequate funds to feed hungry children, Reynolds and her administration would rather paint a picture of obese children spending EBT money to get fatter and underfund her own alternative state-sponsored nutrition program. Stop victimizing children and start earnestly and intently addressing the growing food insecurity issue in this state.

Poor Access to Care Limits Our Workforce
To grow the Iowa work force, we need to develop more child and elder day care opportunities; too many adults are forced to choose between working and providing care for dependents. The “sandwich” generation is feeling a burden that needs to be lightened.
